Great Summer!

This year I have one of the best summers in years and it just snuck up on me.  I didn’t do anything exceptional, no once-in-a-lifetime events.  I didn’t win the lottery.  I just had many very nice days with family and friends.

Our only trip was a four day driving trip to Hannibal and St. Louis Missouri and Springfield Illinois.  We went with friends and had a great time seeing things I always missed on business trips.  I learned a lot about people that I thought I knew about, Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln.

We enjoyed having two of our grandsons here every Monday and Friday since school ended.  They helped me plant, weed and harvest the garden.  We went out to places  like the Children’s museum and The Works in Bloomington.  We saw the giant boot in Red Wing and picked blueberries in Wisconsin.  We have nearly finished a tree house in the woods (probably more fun for me than them).  They will be back in school next week and I will certainly miss them.

We have had the family here on the summer holidays and several other weekends for lots of food and conversation.  I have been graced with a wonderful family and spending time with them is one of the greater joys of my life.

We made a last minute change for a visit to the fair.  Rather than Tuesday the 27th we went on Friday the 23rd.  That worked out really well.  Rather than 95 degrees and humid it was 85 degrees and very pleasant.  We were going to go alone but instead, we went with our nephew and enjoyed his company very much.  It is a rare pleasure to be able to spend a full day with a nephew.

Now fall is rapidly approaching.  Hopefully it will be just as nice as summer has been.

One Response to Great Summer!

Everything sounds wonderful—how about the garden? Have a lot in the pantry? I can’t believe how late everything is! I would have thought, with these torrid days, that the tomatoes would be ripe and harvested by the sun alone. LOL
